How it works

What happens when you scan it?

An SMS QR carries content in the form “SMSTO:number:message”. When scanned, the phone's messaging app opens with the recipient and text filled in.

In short-code SMS campaigns, mistyped keywords are the most common problem. With a QR the keyword always arrives correctly.

SMS doesn't need the internet, so it's a more reliable channel than WhatsApp in places with weak coverage.

Tips

For best results

  • For premium short numbers, clearly state the message fee next to the code.
  • Write keywords in capitals without special characters (JOIN, INFO).
  • Keep the message text short; long SMS may be charged as multiple messages.
  • Consider also offering WhatsApp as an alternative for contacting you.
Before printing
  • Print the code at least 2 × 2 cm; make it bigger as scanning distance grows (about 1/10 of the distance).
  • Use a dark pattern on a light background. Some phones can't read inverted codes.
  • Don't crop the space around the code; the quiet zone is needed for readability.
  • Send SVG to the printer; as a vector it stays sharp at any size.
  • Test the final print file with at least two different phones.
