How it works

What happens when you scan it?

A phone QR carries a number starting with “tel:”. When scanned, the phone's dialer opens with the number typed in; the user just taps call.

We recommend writing the number with the country code (+1). That way people scanning from foreign lines reach the right number too. We clean up spaces, dashes and parentheses.

The user decides to call: the QR never starts a call by itself, it always asks for confirmation.

Tips

For best results

  • Also write the number under the code; it's a fallback for people without camera access.
  • Don't forget the area code for landlines.
  • Use a number that can be called outside business hours, or write the hours next to the code.
  • Be careful when sharing your personal number in public places.
Before printing
  • Print the code at least 2 × 2 cm; make it bigger as scanning distance grows (about 1/10 of the distance).
  • Use a dark pattern on a light background. Some phones can't read inverted codes.
  • Don't crop the space around the code; the quiet zone is needed for readability.
  • Send SVG to the printer; as a vector it stays sharp at any size.
  • Test the final print file with at least two different phones.
