General

Is it really free?

Yes. No paid plans, no trial period, no hidden fees. All features are free, including design options, SVG downloads, dynamic codes and digital menus.

Do I need to sign up?

Not to create and download QR codes. A free account is required to save your codes, edit them later or create dynamic codes (short link, link page, content page, digital menu).

How many QR codes can I create?

There's no limit on static codes. For fair use, you can create 100 dynamic links and 20 digital menus per account.

Can I use it commercially?

Yes. You can use the codes you create commercially on posters, packaging, menus, business cards and ads. There's no watermark or branding of ours on the codes.

Do my QR codes expire?

Static codes never expire; the content is written directly into the code and works even if our site shuts down. Dynamic codes work as long as your account and the item are active.

Which QR types do you support?

Website, text, email, phone, SMS, WhatsApp, Wi-Fi, business card, location and event (static); short link, link page, content page and digital menu (dynamic). A detailed introduction to each is on the QR types page.

Static and dynamic codes

What's the difference between static and dynamic QR?

In a static code, the content (address, Wi-Fi password, business card) is written directly into the code; changing it requires printing a new code. In a dynamic code only a short address is written into the code and the content lives on our server; the printed code stays the same while you change the content whenever you like.

Can I convert a static code to dynamic later?

No; the content of a static code is fixed the moment it's printed. For codes whose content may change later, we recommend choosing a dynamic type from the start.

Can I see how many times my dynamic codes were scanned?

Yes. The visit count for short links, link pages, content pages and digital menus appears in your dashboard. Your own visits (while signed in) aren't counted.

Can I temporarily turn off a dynamic code?

Yes. When you stop publishing, people scanning the code see a “not published” page. When you publish again, the same code picks up where it left off.

Can I password-protect a dynamic page?

Yes. You can set a password of at least 4 characters on short links, link pages and content pages. To prevent brute-force attempts, people entering wrong passwords repeatedly have to wait for a while.

Can I choose the short address (e.g. qrandqr.com/aB3xY9k) myself?

No. Short addresses are random 7-character codes so they can't be guessed, and they are case-sensitive.

Design and customization

Can I change the color of the QR code?

Yes. You can choose the pattern color, background color, a separate color for the corners and a linear or radial gradient. For readability the pattern must be clearly darker than the background; we'll warn you if contrast is low.

Can I put a logo in the center?

Yes. You can upload a logo up to 2 MB in PNG, JPG, WEBP or GIF format, or pick one of 22 ready-made icons (WhatsApp, Instagram, Wi-Fi, location…). Small, medium and large sizes are available.

Does adding a logo affect scanning?

When you add a logo, we automatically set the error correction level to the highest (H) and clear the modules under the logo. This way the code scans even with part of it covered. Still, avoid combining a large logo with a small print, and always test.

What is the error correction level, and which should I choose?

Determines how much of the code can be damaged while still being readable: L (~7%), M (~15%), Q (~25%), H (~30%). The higher the level, the denser the code. M is ideal for most uses; choose Q or H for logos, surfaces that may wear, or outdoors.

Can I add a frame and a “Scan me” label?

Yes. You can choose a label or card style frame and write your own call to action. The frame color is adjustable too; the text is converted to vector paths in the downloaded file.

Do pattern and corner styles make the code unreadable?

No. The square, soft, fluid, dot, diamond and mini patterns have all been tested with standard QR readers. You can also pick separate styles for the eye frame and center.

Can I download a QR with a transparent background?

Yes. If you turn on the transparent background option in the design panel, the PNG downloads without a background. It scans easily as long as you don't place it on a dark or busy background.

Downloading and printing

Should I download PNG or SVG?

If you'll use it on screens, the web or social media, PNG is enough. For printers, posters, signs or packaging choose SVG; as a vector it stays sharp at any size and can be edited in design software.

What size should I print the QR code?

Rule of thumb: about one tenth of the scanning distance. At least 2 × 2 cm for hand-held business cards and labels, 3 × 3 cm for table cards, 10 cm or more for wall posters. The longer the content, the denser the code; keep content short for small prints.

Can I set the PNG resolution?

Yes. The design panel has different size options. For print we still recommend SVG; PNG can get blurry when enlarged.

What should I check before printing?

Scan the code from the final print file with at least two different phones; make sure the pattern is dark, the background light and the white space around the code isn't cropped. Separately test readability on glossy or reflective surfaces.

What should I watch out for when placing the code in my design?

Leave a margin at least four modules wide around the code, don't overlay text or images on it, and don't print it on curved or folding surfaces. Inverted colors (light pattern, dark background) can't be read by some phones.

Scanning and troubleshooting

How do I scan a QR code?

On iPhone and recent Android phones, just open the camera app and frame the code; tap the notification that appears on screen. If the camera doesn't recognize it, you can use Google Lens or a QR reader app.

My phone can't scan the code, what should I do?

The most common causes: low contrast, inverted colors, printing too small, a cropped quiet zone, glare and blurry images. Try simplifying the design with darker colors, enlarging the code and raising the error correction level.

The Wi-Fi QR scans but doesn't connect to the network.

The network name and password must match exactly, including upper/lower case. Check that the right security type is selected (usually WPA/WPA2/WPA3) and that the network isn't an enterprise network requiring a username, such as 802.1X.

My dynamic code says “not published” or “not found”.

The item may have been unpublished, moved to the trash or permanently deleted. Check the publishing status and trash in your dashboard; items in the trash can be restored within 90 days.

Why does a warning page appear when the code is scanned?

For link QR codes, some phones show a warning for HTTP (insecure) addresses. Use an address starting with https:// if possible.

Account and privacy

How do I sign up?

You can sign up in seconds with an email and a password of at least 8 characters, or with your Google or Apple account.

Can I save a code I created without signing in?

Yes. When you press “Save” we send you to the sign-in page; after you sign in or sign up, the code is added to your account automatically.

Can I connect my Google or Apple account later?

Yes. In the “Connected accounts” section of Account settings you can connect or disconnect Google and Apple accounts. If no other sign-in method remains, you'll be asked to set a password before removing the last connection.

What happens if I change my password?

When the password changes, your sessions and “remember me” cookies on other devices are invalidated; you stay signed in only on the device where you made the change.

Can you see the content of the QR codes I create?

The content of static codes you create without an account isn't stored; it's processed momentarily only for the preview and download. Logos you upload are deleted regularly if they aren't linked to any saved code. Codes you save to your account and dynamic content are kept in our database so we can show them to you.

How do I delete my account?

From the “Delete account” section at the bottom of Account settings. Your saved QR codes, menus and links are permanently deleted along with your account, and your dynamic codes stop working. This can't be undone.

Can I restore deleted menus or links?

Yes. Deleted items go to the trash first and can be restored for 90 days. After that they are deleted permanently.
