How it works

What happens when you scan it?

A location QR carries latitude and longitude in the standard “geo:” format. When scanned, the phone's map app (Google Maps, Apple Maps, Yandex…) opens and marks the point.

Coordinates are far more precise than an address: you can point to the right gate on a large campus or the right meeting spot in a park.

To find coordinates, long-press the point in Google Maps and copy the value that appears at the top, like “41.0082, 28.9784”. The first number is latitude, the second longitude.

Tips

For best results

  • Latitude must be between −90 and 90, longitude between −180 and 180; in the contiguous US latitude is about 25–49 and longitude about −125 to −67.
  • Mark the entrance or door, not the middle of the building.
  • Also write the full address next to the code; it's a fallback if the map doesn't open.
  • If the location is linked to your business profile, you can also use the Google Maps share link as a Link QR.
Before printing
  • Print the code at least 2 × 2 cm; make it bigger as scanning distance grows (about 1/10 of the distance).
  • Use a dark pattern on a light background. Some phones can't read inverted codes.
  • Don't crop the space around the code; the quiet zone is needed for readability.
  • Send SVG to the printer; as a vector it stays sharp at any size.
  • Test the final print file with at least two different phones.
